Firefly The Firefly, the new hit Whedon series, came out of her one-off episode. Her character, River Tam, was a complex character that Glau did her best to manage. In the role of Tam she was forced into government experiments that required her to be trained to be the ultimate assassin. Tam's capacity to control her emotions is taken from her. Glau's combat skills were demonstrated on Firefly. Glau was able to fully exploit her athletic talent since she was preparing to be an assassin. The classical background of Summer Glau is what makes her an extremely skilled ballerina. Her dancing prowess also includes studies in tango and flamenco but it was a fractured toe which ended her dance career. Firefly was on only for the duration of one episode, but had a large fanbase. Whedon was so in love with the show that he was able to return to the show a few years later. Summer Glau kept on getting her fair share of work.
