The shadows she observed in the grass inspired her to spend months developing an approach that in contrast did not portray the selected object onto canvas. Rather the subject is transformed into a re-creation of itself in which the painting becomes the carrier of it's individual interpretation of the subject, particularly in the case of live or perishable objects for example, like humans or fruit. Alexa's painting style is ephemeral, and the only thing remaining of Alexa Meade is her photograph. Trompe l'oeil is achieved using the two processes of photography and painting. It creates a flattened, two dimensional photograph. Meade often incorporates her painted figures into the 3-dimensional world around them. They can interact in the self-created world. This way, the line between photography and painting is dissolved.
