She has covered sports in many of the top publications around the world. Her time working at The Washington Post was spent with multiple Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis, football and basketball. Nichols was awarded two Emmy Awards during her nine-year time at ESPN and appeared on some of its most watched programs like NFL Countdown or SportsCenter, moved to ESPN following 2004. She was also an integral part of ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcasts as an on-line reporter. Her next assignment was CNN and Turner Sports. Unguarded the show, which she created and hosted was telecast each day on CNN International. It had over 1 billion viewers across the globe. Nichols was employed by TNT as a journalist and reporter on NBA games, including playoffs, regular season as well as All Star television broadcasts. Her work with TBS covered golf and baseball coverage, and Final Four broadcasts by CBS. This is the first occasion in the award's 42 year tradition that a woman has been included among the over 200 nominations.
